At the Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC), getting you where you need to go is about more than transportation it’s about comfort, safety, accessibility, and sustainability.In 2025, JUTC continued to modernise its fleet with new buses designed to improve the commuter experience while supporting a cleaner, more efficient transport system. From quiet compressed natural gas (CNG) buses to premium long-distance coaches and Jamaica’s first low-entry articulated bus, here’s a closer look at the buses you’ll see on the road.
This hybrid electric bus is one of the most advanced vehicles in the JUTC fleet. It runs fully on an electric motor, with a diesel generator that automatically recharges the battery when power levels drop to 60%.
With a range of over 1,600 kilometres, the bus can complete multiple long-distance trips such as Kingston to Montego Bay before needing a full recharge. Under normal conditions, plug-in charging is only required about once every four months.
Inside, passengers enjoy a premium ride with comfortable seating, USB charging ports at every seat, and a quiet, smooth journey. This bus combines innovation, efficiency, and comfort in one impressive package.
In June 2025, JUTC expanded its eco-friendly operations with the delivery of 63 Yutong C12 buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG).
Each bus seats 51 passengers and features generous legroom, USB charging ports, and a smooth, comfortable ride. One of the standout features of the Yutong C12 is how quiet it is thanks to its ZF transmission, which reduces engine noise and delivers seamless gear changes.
The result is a calm, relaxing travel experience that has quickly become popular with commuters.
The Golden Dragon Triumph Diesel Coach represents the next chapter in long-distance travel for JUTC, replacing older Volvo coaches. Thirty units were delivered, including three with wheelchair lifts, ensuring greater accessibility for passengers with mobility challenges.
These coaches are mainly used on premium and rural express routes and offer a first-class travel experience. Features include USB Type-A and Type-C charging ports, ambient lighting, fold-down tray tables, footrests, curtains, and onboard TV screens. Powered by a Cummins engine and Allison transmission, these coaches are built for reliability, comfort, and long journeys.
The Yutong ZK6126HG buses completed JUTC’s order of 70 CNG buses, with seven units delivered in this category. These low-entry buses are fully accessible, making them ideal for seniors, passengers with disabilities, and parents travelling with strollers.
Each bus seats 40 passengers plus two designated spaces and offers the same quiet engine and smooth ride commuters appreciate in the Yutong C12. A distinctive feature is the roof-mounted CNG tanks, visible as twin humps on top of the bus both practical and easy to recognise.
The standout addition of 2025 is the Golden Dragon NAV12 articulated bus, marking several historic firsts for JUTC:
Unlike older articulated buses, the NAV12 has a rear-mounted engine, allowing the rear wheels to push the full 18-metre length of the bus. This design performs exceptionally well on Jamaica’s road network.
Inside, the bus seats 57 passengers plus two designated spaces in a bright, open interior. One of the most unique experiences is sitting at the rear, where passengers can see straight down the entire length of the bus offering a true sense of its size, design, and modern layout.
