The JUTC is a limited liability company incorporated under the Companies Act of Jamaica and owned by the Government of Jamaica (GOJ). Reporting to the Ministry of Science, Energy, Telecommunications and Transport, the JUTC effective September 01, 2025, will be providing a national rural school bus service across thirteen (13) parishes, grouped into seven operational zones. The aim is to deliver safe, efficient, and affordable transportation solutions to challenges faced by students by providing a structured, reliable, and secure means of travel to and from school.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be 25 years old or older
  • At least Four (4) subjects at GCE O΄Level/CXC General Proficiency level, including English Language and Mathematics or equivalent qualification or NCTVET level certification. (Applicants without the requisite qualification will be subject to a competency test by HEART).
  • Valid Open General driver’s license with weight no less than 3500kg – Point standing not exceeding 2
  • Minimum three (3) years of professional driving experience (public passenger or commercial preferred)
  • A clean driving record in addition to a clean police record
  • Previous experience in driving school buses or working in school transportation is an asset
  • Familiarity with rural road network is an asset
  • Certification in Defensive Driving, First Aid, or Child Care is an asset

 

Responsibilities

The Driver will be responsible for safely operating our school buses along designated routes and according to schedules, collecting fares, handling cash, operating the fare collection system, and providing excellent customer service while adhering to company policies, safety protocols and traffic regulations. 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Excellent knowledge of defensive driving techniques.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Excellent knowledge of road safety and traffic laws
  • The ability to handle cash and operate fare collection equipment
  • The ability to detect and report mechanical issues
  • Excellent time management skills
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and act quickly in emergency situations
  • The ability to handle disruptions or conflicts on the bus appropriately
  • Familiarity with the Child Care and Protection Act

 

REMUNERATION:

Salary:  $1,711,060.00 per annum/$822.6250 per hour payable fortnightly and related benefits.
